Remember when assemblies were fun?
by Aphrodite ini just remembered when i was a kid and we would go to the assembly, it was fun because we got to buy new clothes and put extra effort into looking good.
when we would get there you could save your seats and even save some for your friends, then go off looking for them.. i used to love our circuit assembly because of the food.
it was at the assembly hall and there was a big kitchen, some of my favourite brothers worked in that kitchen, sometimes i was allowed to go in and help.

Assemblies were absolute hell. It was always cold and as a preschool child being made to sit for 3hour sessions on a rock hard seat whilst some old man droned on, usually over time, about some teaching that by now has been removed. In my teens we attended asssemblies in the USA where you usually roasted in the sun. I gave up assemblies along time before I left the hall.

Tell me why MY VIEW of Christianity is wrong
by Terry ini sometimes think the standard christian view of things is this.. mankind, like the people in new orleans after hurricane katrina, are stranded waiting on aid and god flys over and sees them on the roof waving and holding up signs, but, he can't really do as much as he would like to.. he has some stopgap aid here and there for a few, but, mostly everybody just has to do the best they can to hang on.. like federal aid or the national guard---jesus is coming!
hang on!
jesus is coming!.

The basis of salvation is the ransom sacrifice and our acceptance of it. The rest is up to God.

"Youth book" said 97% of teenagers Masturbate...but none of them are Witnesses! Is this unrealistic?
by Witness 007 in"youth" book and "young people ask" admitts that 97% boys and 92% of girls masturbate but of course none of the holy decent witness teenagers would ever do such a thing and earn jehovahs anger!
how realistic is this?
97% of the world have t.v's or a telephone!

To what degree due you think "Internet killed the "Jehovah's Witness" radio star."
by Witness 007 ini remember getting my first crapy computer for $200 bucks and clicking on the internet for the first time....i said to myself: "i may just look up my jehovah's witness brothers on here.....free minds watching the watchtower hmmm .
so the nails in my faith coffin began to be hammered in rip.
so how big an influence was the net in your leaving?.

I left the "truth" because of reading the Watchtower and it finally made no sense at all. Never read any apostate material or listened to any apostates.

"If Christianity Doesnt Matter Why Do You Bother With It?"
by leavingwt inmany theists ask why atheists care about god or the bible.
the question deserves an answer.
below, former pastor, bruce gerencser, provides one.

response from Ray Franz on generation change
by isaacaustin inthanks for your letter and the thoughts contained.
others had commented on the latest shift of the interpretation of this generation.
as you recognize this allows for an unending extension of time and likely stems from an awareness of the approach of the year 2014 marking 100 years since the date of 1914.. .

The Society i believe taught that the sign was invisible seen by the eyes of faith. The sign of Matt. 24:3 had it's fulfillment in verse 30. Which was Christ coming in before the ancient of days and recieving his kingship in 1914. There was a visible composite sign seen almost as the effects of this, nation against nation, with the heavens being cleansed of the Devil.
The Society now teach we have not seen the sign of verse 30. Although evidently millions had. The Society also brought out in the "things of which it is impossible to lie" book that the word "Sign" has a meaning of standard. Like the Roman armies would raise. In other words it seemed he didnt tell you what the sign was as the angels would gather you anyway.

John 9:38 in NWT renders it as formerly blind man "did obeisance" to Jesus. Other translations state he,"worshiped Jesus". Who's right?
by miseryloveselders inthis is the story regarding the man blind from birth, whom jesus healed.
the verses in question go in context, ............... .
(john 9:35-41)35 jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and, on finding him, he said: are you putting faith in the son of man?

Surely any obeisance done before a god is worship. The three mentioned in Daniel chapter 3 and shown on the old Jehovahs Witness calendar could not have done obesiance before the image as this could be viewed as worship. Saluting the flag although not bowing is viewed in such manner as idolatry. In Phillipians 2:10. I believe is a quote of Isaiah 45:23 which is worship cross referenced in the NWT with Psalms 95:6. Bending the knee to Jesus who is a god according to JW's and all the other christians who are doing the same and viewing Jesus as God and this as worship, I think it would be hard to defend that if the Witness bends the knee to Jesus he is not worshipping, just as the three hebrews were unable to do lest it be viewed as worship.

Hmmm...I have a question
by hmmmmmm inhi.. somethings seem weird.. for example - wages of sin is death - so if you sin you die, and if you die you have paid for that sin completely, so you have no more sin.
.
now what if everyone in the world was killed - by a nuclear domino effect - in theory we have saved everyone .... any ideas?.

"In baptism the effect of this death is applied to the baptised (Rom 6. 11f; 1Cor 6:11)..." "Thus in 1Cor 12. 13 he presupposes that entrance into the flock of Christ, with its focus in baptism, also confers a share in this divine gift." Page 81.
"The imagery of burial repeats what was said through the picture of circumcision, that the old conditions were eliminated. In both images something is discarded, a foreskin and a corpse, respectively. Both of them also have a positive aspect, even though this is less evident in the case of circumcision. Burial and death are followed by resurrection, and the image of circumcision presupposes that the rite was the sign of entrance into the people of God...So both images also underline that God is at work in baptism." Page97.
"In the Gospel of John, the new birth from water is one of the preconditions for the entry into the kingdom of God, or in more Johannine terms, for obtaining "eternal life". Page 167.

Matt.28:19..."baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy spirit."Romans 6:3 "Do you not know that all of us who were baptised into his Christ Jesus were baptised into his death? 8."If we have died with Christ we believe that we shall also live with him" Titus 3:5 "owing to no works in righteousness that we had preformed but according to his mercy he saved us through the bath that brought us to life.."1 Peter 3:21 "that which corresponds to this is also now saving you namely, baptism.."
1 Cor. 10:2 "and all got baptized into Moses by means of the cloud and sea." This large crowd no doubt included infants.
On the blood issue most JWs believe that children can make the right choice on a matter of life and death. But they do not often believe that baptism is as important at such a young age.
